Premium Fleeces
Here is one of my favorite aspects of the Icelandic breed: the rich, luscious fleece textures and the glorious array of colors. Each fleece is unique in its complex tones and shading.
As the page title says, only my premium quality spinning fleeces are listed on this page. Felting, craft-quality, and salvage fleeces are listed on the Bargain Fleeces page.
Our flock has grown big enough this year that we hired a professional shearer for the first time, rather than doing the shearing ourselves. It’s more expensive, but it’s quicker for the sheep, easier on our backs, and results in a better shearing job.
Also for the first time this year, I am skirting all the fleeces to remove any dirty or short bits and any seeds or burrs that I find, to bring you a cleaner, higher-quality fleece.
All Premium fleeces are $16 per pound.

07F-18 Trouble (Black solid lamb) Silky soft lamb fleece. Long, soft curls of charcoal/chocolate tog make a beautiful, complex contrast with the baby-fine thel that is such a rich, lustrous gray that it looks almost blue.

08F-01 Rhonwen (Black badger adult) This is my best fleece ewe. Her fleece is so nice, she gets fan mail and repeat customers. Soft, cream-colored lustrous tog, soft smoke-colored thel, plus some black locks from her badgerface markings.

08F-02 Paisley (Moorit badger spotted adult) Another of my best fleece sheep, known for the beautiful soft luster of her wool. Long curly soft white tog, soft creamy white thel. The lighting in this photo makes the fleece look beige, but in real life, it will wash to a lustrous creamy white.

08F-09 Secret (Moorit solid adult) Lush, medium-soft fleece in tones ranging from pale apricot-blond to rich mahogany brown, with a soft thel of lovely smoky taupe.

08F-10 Simone (Black solid adult) This one is as black as they get! A rare, inky-black fleece with almost no brown or silver shading at all. Medium-soft texture.

08F-11 Midas (moorit badger adult) This ram is the father or grandfather of all my best fleece ewes, and even though a ram’s fleece gets coarser the older he is, this fellow’s fleece is still remarkable for a ram of his age. Long, slightly coarse tog in shades of wheat and peachy-golden brown. Creamy oatmeal colored thel is very dense, fine, and soft. Some chocolate and taupe locks from his badger markings. This fleece is from an adult ram during breeding season, so it has a distinct ram-like aroma, which will wash out. Half price because the thel’s staple length is a bit short, and there is some rubbing and some small-particle VM around the neck area.

08F-12 Titan (Moorit solid adult) Very soft and fluffy for an adult ram’s fleece. Long, curly tog and soft, silky thel, all in a gorgeous, complex array of subtle shades from dark umber through rich mahogany all the way through silvery taupe. These stunning colors make me wish I was keeping this one for myself!

08F-13 Ukraine (Moorit solid lamb) This beautiful lamb fleece is super fine, soft, and springy. The color is very deep and rich mahogany tipped with bright red-gold curls. Half price because the staple is shorter than average and there’s a little VM, mostly small straight stems of hay that are easy to pick out. The gorgeous color and texture make it worth a little extra effort.

08F-14 Urban (White lamb) Cloud-soft, lustrous, and extremely white (much brighter white than it looks in the photo). This lamb’s father produced my best white fleece last year, and this year his son follows the tradition. This is a splendid fleece.

08F-16 Pandora (White adult) My shearer commented that this fleece was “everything an Icelandic fleece should be.” Medium-soft, curly tog and plush, creamy thel with a soft sheen. This fleece will wash to a much purer white than it looks in the photo.

08F-18 Freyr (Black badger mouflon adult) Wow, what complex and subtle colors! This fleece is very soft for an adult ram, with a long, lustrous, curly tog in shades of golden-cream and honey-wheat. The colors of the soft thel range from palest cloudy-silver to dark smoky-charcoal. To add to the wondrous array of shades, there are locks of black, red-brown, and steel-gray from his badger and mouflon markings.
