Text Box: INGLESIDE FARM

Outbuildings

It’s useful for a farm to have plenty of outbuildings.  But they’re places where the already thinly stretched renovation dollars don’t tend to reach right away.  I would love to bring all these buildings back into full repair, but we simply don’t have the money to do it yet.

Text Box: We also have an old barn.
Text Box: The house is not our only building in need of renovation.
Text Box: And a cabin we were told used to be the slave quarters.
Text Box: And a shed that had been used as a wood shed.
Text Box: And a dilapidated chicken house covered in poison ivy.
Text Box: And a garage so hidden by bushes we didn’t even see it.
Text Box: And an old country store! In addition to selling everything from fertilizer and seeds to fabric and shoes, it also used to be the post office for Alcoma, VA (which isn’t even really a town anymore).
Text Box: We had to tear down the old outhouse behind the store because it was dilapidated to the point of being unsafe.
Text Box: The store is very spacious inside, but in need of lots of renovating. The previous owner also left quite a bit of junk inside. We currently use the building for hay storage, and sometimes to shelter the sheep during bad weather. But someday I’d love to turn it back into a store to sell our farm products, and workshop space for teaching workshops and hosting school trips.
